James McCarthy, Co-Owner and General Manager, Boxygen  Fitness

James McCarthy

Co-Owner and General Manager

James is General Manager and co-owner at Boxygen Performance & Fitness. James started his training at Nonantum Boxing Club in Newton, MA 6 years ago. James is a group class instructor, personal trainer, and athletic team trainer, who specializes in boxing as well as strength/speed/agility training. James is a Certified USA Boxing instructor and former All-American collegiate wide receiver at Framingham State University. While at Framingham he earned All-East Region First Team honors from D3football.com and election to New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team. He holds numerous school receiving records. James is still the only single season 1,000 yard receiver in school history. James was also a college coach for three years at Framingham State University and Curry College. He holds a BA from Framingham State University and is also a firefighter in the Newton, MA fire department.

Matt Giles, Co-Owner, Boxygen  Fitness

Matt is co-founder of Boxygen Performance & Fitness. Matt is a group class instructor, personal trainer and athletic team trainer, specializing in boxing training, strength and conditioning. Matt is a Certified USA Boxing instructor, former varsity basketball player at University of Chicago and former instructor at numerous youth and college basketball camps. Matt holds a BA from the University of Chicago and JD from Harvard law School.

Eric Busa, Co-Owner, Boxygen Fitness

Eric is co-founder of Boxygen Performance & Fitness and Nonantum Boxing Club. Eric is a group class instructor, personal trainer and athletic team trainer, specializing in boxing as well as strength, mobility and speed training. Over 20+ years, Eric has trained a number of amateur boxers and has worked with a number of professional, collegiate and high school athletes to improve their performance. Eric is a Certified Physical Performance Specialist and Certified USA Boxing instructor. Eric has a BA from Bentley College where he played varsity football and runs a construction business in Newton, MA.

John Kalell, Partner Trainer, Boxygen  Fitness

John Kalell

Partner Trainer

John Kalell is the owner of JacKed Performance and provides personal and small group training as well as group instruction. John specializes in training athletes including professional, college and high school athletes, with a focus on strength, power, footwork, agility and biomechanics. John has been a trainer since January 2010 and holds an A.B. in Business Management from Massachusetts Bay Community College where he played varsity baseball. John graduated from an intensive 8 month strength and conditioning course at National Personal Training Institute in 2009 and is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. John was born and raised in Dedham, MA.

Ryan started training at Nonantum Boxing Club 5 years ago after graduating from Merrimack College. He was a four year starter on the football team, and team captain his senior season. At Boxygen Performance and Fitness, Ryan is a group class instructor, personal trainer, and athletic team trainer. He is also a full time firefighter on the Newton Fire Department. 

Marc Gargaro, Co-Owner, Boxygen  Fitness

Marc Gargaro

Co-Owner

Marc is founder and co-owner of Nonantum Boxing Club. Marc is a professional boxing coach and an AIBA Star 1 coach. He also serves as an assistant coach on Team USA and has coached in several international tournaments over the past few years. The tournaments include the 2018 Women's World Championships in India and the President's Cup in Kazakhstan. Marc has been coaching boxing for more than 10 years.

Nathan Busa, Co-Owner, Boxygen  Fitness

Nathan Busa

Nathan is founder and co-owner of Nonantum Boxing Club. Nathan has over 25 years boxing experience. He spent over 4 years in the Marine Corps as a Sergeant and competing in the All-Marine Tournament at Camp LeJeune, NC. His impressive amateur record includes winning the Lowell Novice Golden Gloves in 2003, and the Lowell Open Golden Gloves in 2004. Nathan is a USA Boxing Level II Certified Coach with over 10 years experience coaching boxing and strength and conditioning.
